Hi, I have just got the new iPad 3 and wondered if it was possible to lock some apps like mail, pictures etc to stop family members deleting anything by accident. Many thanks in advance for any help. Vince

The IPad Forum is a community of members from all walks of life and from all over the world coming together to share our experiences and to help each other learn about this wonderful piece of technology the Ipad. There is a wealth of information already here in the many threads we have so doing some searches will answer most of the questions you have. If then you cannot find the answer you are seeking then by all means post your question. There are many friendly and informed members here only too willing to help you.
To add on a bit to what Marilyn said, I've now noticed you can't lock those specifically. However there is many other things you can do to prevent loss of data accidentally or not.
You can use the iCloud service to back up your photos but there is limitations with this.
The more regularly you sync your iPad to your pc the more likely it is to recover anything too many people complain of permanently losing their data and they do not back up there iPad so there is no going back. Imagine it as an accident WILL happen and you are just taking necessary steps to prevent any major loss.
You can also find hundreds of secure photo vault apps for free where you can store your pictures in these apps either privately or along side your camera roll creating copies into these apps (this does not mean it deletes the camera roll you still have to do that manually).
Also do you use gmail? I'm not sure if it's just googlemail that does this but my emails don't actually delete from the iPad when i edit and select emails it will say ARCHIVE instead of delete so you can always log into googlemail in the google web login site and still retrieve these emails. unless I press on the bin icon in the top right I pressed one of those buttons once and lost an email which I think was just moved somewhere else but luckily it was not important, but then they can be found in your trash folder.
Hopefully my advice helps you understand your options better. but the best piece of advice is back up the iPad as often as you can.
