log off mail

Is there a way to log off from gmail that I'm unaware of. I do not like having my email available to anyone who has a play with my ipad

How are you accessing gmail? Via Safari (webmail) or using the iPad's native Mail app?

I'm using the app, it's a nuisance!

There's a sort of partial workaround -

'Settings', 'Mail, Contacts, Calendar', 'Accounts' - choose the gmail account - then blank out the password.
