iPhones and iPads can be hacked by using a bug found in the built in Mail app. An upcoming software update will also include a fix to that vulnerability.
Apple has already released a patch in the beta versions of 13.4.5. The official update will be released in a few weeks. If using a beta version is not possible, ZecOps, the security research firm that found the bug, recommends disabling Mail and using other apps until the update.
