Mail stuck

Did you already restart/ reset the iPad? This is first choice:
1. Force close the email app (double tap home button, longpress on any app until the red dot appears, then close the email app.)
2. Restart the iPad by switching off/ on the ipad.
3. Reyet the ipad by holding off + home button until the ipad switches off and the apple logo appears. Then restart the email app and check.
