Mercury browser toolbar

The toolbar, which used to sit comfortably across the bottom of the screen, shifted without apparent input from me to a vertical strip on the right side. It interferes with reading page content, of course. I cannot find a preference for toolbar location anywhere. Anyone have an idea how I can beat it back into submission?
