Messages app?

Can anyone tell me what the Messages app is for, for it opens like a " new mail message" but it does not work as one, and why have it anyway as my have an email app.

To me it's a form of a chatting with family that have an iOS device. It's an easy way to communicate and share pics with others without having to go through the email app.

do you have your subscriptions set up that way to receive it through email? Have a look at your settings and check to see how your subscriptions are manged.
