At the beginning of this month, we shared with you the news that Apple was getting closer to start building its new, spaceship-like campus in Cupertino. Now, we get to see how it could look like, thanks to some miniature model renderings that Apple shared with the San Jose Mercury News. Apple hopes that the Cupertino City Council will approve the building plans this Tuesday.

Apple calls its upcoming new corporate building the Campus 2, which is going to be built on the former Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) campus. According to Dan Whisenhunt, director of real estate and facilities for Apple, they plan on transforming the "sea of asphalt" into an environmentally friendly facility with 80 percent of it being open space and parkland.

Whisenhunt said:

"This will be one of the most environmentally sustainable developments on this scale anywhere in the world. A building like this will use 30 percent less energy than a typical corporate building in the Valley. And that's 100-percent renewable energy, which is unheard of on this scale."

The Campus 2 project is probably going to be Steve Jobs' last dream came true, as he was the on who first presented the idea in 2011 in what proved to be his last public appearance. He said at the time that hApple could "have a shot at building the best office building in the world. I think it could be that good." What do you think about its design?
