Missing Items After Upgrade

I too am a fairly new iPad 2 user. I installed the newest version of iTunes on a Windows XP computer and backed up the iPad before starting the 5.0 upgrade. After several attempts, it finally seemed to work but none of my applications were installed. I re-installed these from the app store, but all of my user information specific to the applications was missing. So, I did a restore and things went from bad to worse. All my emails, photos, movies, etc are gone in addition to all application-specific information. Is there to get all of my information back again?

Performing Restore - Means you got back to the point of the date you made the backup.
check here in the forum all about SYNC.
That maybe part of your problem.
