Monitoring files downloaded by an app.

I want to know if there is an app with which i can monitor the data downloaded (Over Internet) by other apps. Is there any other way to see/access those files that are downloaded by an application.

I am looking for a tool/Software which monitors or records the file-type or files which are downloaded by an application over internet. For Example: A YouTube plays a video in MP4 format. Similarly there is an application which downloads and plays data. I just want to know in which format it downloads the data. (It is not a video player)
