Some apps keep bringing out the pop-up "the app cannot be downloaded @ this time and I should either click retry or done" ......I keep retrying, but the same thing still happens.....meanwhile some of my other apps update perfectly.....pls help me.

I am having the same issue. I am slowly gaining more and more that need to be updated!!!

Hello to both of you! Welcome to this great community!

Try the following things:

1. Delete the apps that won't update, then install again. Try updating, if needed.

2. On your Computer go to iTunes, check for available downloads, and after downloading sync with your iPad

3. On your iPad: go to Settings - iTunes & App Stores; tap your Apple ID to sign out, then sign in again; update the app.

4. set your iPad to Airplane Mode (Settings), power off the iPad, power on again and turn off Airplane Mode. Try updating.

5. If nothing else works: make sure you've made a recent backup. Go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings. That done, restore from your backup.

Did you check in settings to make sure that app downloads have not been turned off? Go to Settings>General>Restrictions and make sure that installing apps has been turned on.

I think you know better than me, but just a thought:
If downloading apps were turned off, would't that mean that all the apps won't update, not only some of them?

Which apps don't update?

You're right about that. It's an all or nothing situation for the downloading apps switch.

A long shot here but are you updating on cellular rather than wifi, if so the updates for those particular apps might be too large (disclaimer: this is a complete guess as I don't have a cellular iPad!).

Which apps don't update?

Most of my game apps, but I deleted them and installed them again, and it did install, but then I lost all the progress(how far I've gone on the games) and also on my adobe reader,I lost all my downloaded PDFs when I deleted and installed again.

I'm updating on wifi

I've had various experiences with apps not updating and don't know cause and effect in each case, so I try various approaches:

One random thing that worked once when only my husband's apps wouldn't update, even though we share one iTunes account and the same apps updated on my iDevices: I changed the date to one day ahead or behind (in Settings) on his iPad and all his apps updated. (I googled and found that tip.)

Other times, I update individual apps, rather than using the Update All function. I think that sometimes works (at least judging by trial and error) because one app's update is somehow hanging up the others.

During other times, I restart or reset my iDevice and the updates kick in.

During other times, I sign out of the app store and sign back in, and the updates kick in.

And sometimes it's just that the app store is down, so I give it a day or so.

I've used iPad for three years, and iPhone before that, and have always managed to use of those approaches and update when the normal approach didn't work.

Oh one other random thing I've tried that works if I'm updating a bunch of apps and they hang:

I pause all of the apps but one (tap on each app once, and it should say Pause), and that seems to unclog things so at least one can update at a time. Once one updates, I tap and unpause another, and that updates, and I continue unpausing and updating one app at a time. I don't know why that works, but it does. I figure it's like a bunch of people trying to get through an intersection and I'm the traffic cop.

Try updating all the apps via iTunes and your PC/Mac THEN, tether your ipad and sync after they've all downloaded & updated.

I have experienced similar issues when I am on the cellular network, especially in poor reception areas. Then there is the size limit on cellular that could also play a role.

Forgot to add that the issue does not occur when on Wi-Fi
