I got an ipad2 for Xmas and since I was driving to Florida 6 days later I thought: this is perfect, I'll buy navigation software and use my ipad as my map all the way to Florida (from Canada). Wrong. I did buy Tomtom but it kept telling me "poor GSP reception" so it never worked the whole way. My ipad has wifi but not 3G. Is that my problem? Should I be able to enable GSP on my ipad without 3G?

Regarding your issue, yes only a 3G iPad will give you full GPS capability. You can have limited GPS with wifi depending on the number of towers in the areas you are travelling in. Navfree is a good app for setting directions at home and then you can follow the map you have set when out, works for me when I don't have 3G running. Hope this helps
