New and confused - need help

Hi I have lost all my excel docs that were stored on my iPad. They were there this morning but the battery was really flat and the unit shut down on me. Now when I go to excel it tells me there are no recent docs????? Any tips for retrieving these files. BTW I'm not tech savvy in case you didn't figure it out. Need lay and terms please. Thanks in advance for any assistance offered
 
If you know the name of a file, go the the home screen and swipe your finger down on an area of empty space. That shoukd bring up spotlight. Type in name, or part of name, into the search box and look at results.

I assume that all that has gone is the 'recent' list and the files should still be there wherever Excel puts them.

I hope this resolves your problem.
