New and needing ipad expertise please!

Hello!

I'm new here, using an iPad3 or possibly 4, wish I could work out which- but definitely running OS 7.1.1 as I just checked!
Well, as you can see, I'm no tech-spert, so would be grateful anyone who might advise on either or both issues:

1) Jail breaking:

I'm told I need to do this to install f.lux ("justgetflux com ") which I really want to do so I can use my ipad in the evenings without affecting my sleep- only thing is I have no idea where to begin and having skimmed through a few posts on this topic it looks like it could be a risky procedure and possibly have adverse effects on the operating system..? Hope someone can advise me!

2) Document editing:

I need to find a reliable app/piece of software ASAP which will allow me to edit documents in colour, ie red!. I have pages but haven't found a way to use colour on that- Any recommendations welcome!

Hi, welcome to iPF! Great to have you here!

First of all: an iPad 3 can easily be distinguished from an iPad 4. If your iPad has a lightning adapter, it's a 4. With a 30 PIN connector, it's a 3.

I see that your current software is 7.1.1, which is the latest. Afaik it can't be jailbroken.

To your question about colouring text. As you posted that you already have Pages, it will work like this, if you want to change the colour of a file afterwards:
















The last picture will be the result in this case. If you perform these steps before writing the text, everything you'll write afterwards will have your chosen colour.

Just adding to J.A.'s post: unfortunately, she's correct - iOS 7.1.1 is no jailbreakable on an iPad. Sorry.

I do understand why you'd want f.lux, which isn't available on a stock iPad. So, my suggestion is to stay in touch with this forum and watch for news and details after iOS 8 has been released to the public. We have a pretty active jail break community and we will "officially" be keeping track of the progress on any potential jail breaks.

But, for now, it's a no-go for jail breaking iOS 7.1.1. Sorry.
