I recently received this first generation iPad as a gift and with n knowledge started working or playing with it. I have a no sim card message and there is no sim card. This is not a phone so I don't sknow why I need a sim card. How do I get rid of that message? My friends iPad has "IPAD" in the top left corner. Any ideas how I can get tis taken care of?

Thanks,

Ida

You have the better 3G and wifi model by the sounds of it. If you buy a sim card with a 3G plan (make sure it's a micro sim) then look on the side for a sim card tray then you can insert a sim card and yours will say 3G this means you can take it around with you and have Internet anywhere without being in a wifi area. Your friends seem to be a wifi only model. You can turn that off for now by going to settings>cellular data>off.
Hope this helps

I have a cellular phone with a sim card but that is all. Please forgive my unfamiliarity with the iPad. I don't want to be able to do anything that costs me more. The cellular device setting is greyed out so I cannot toggle it at all. Does this affect my use of the iPad- having no sim card in it? If I understand you, if I have a sim card, it will let me work on the iPad online without being in a wifi area?

Bottom line, do I need to do anything about the no sim card message to work fully on the ipad

Thanks ?

Do I a have to have a sim card? I just want to play games and messenger some folks some time. I can't turn off the cellular data because it is disabled and greyed out.

You do not need the SIM card for your iPad to work on wi-fi networks (just like your friends). Just go to settings and turn your cellular data off, as TheRealRiley suggested. That should stop the warning messages.

Depending on what iOS version you are running it may not be exactly where he said, but a little looking around should find it for you quickly enough.
