New Member and Looking For Recommendations

Hi Everyone,

I'm a new member and looking for some purchase advice.

I received an Asus TF201 for Christmas and it was nothing but problems, Asus removed GPS from the specification after the purchase because it didn't work, Wifi was extremely slow and the signal was weak, constant browser lockups, manufacturing issues are preventing retailers from stocking the product, and weeks after initial shipment, Asus already started shipping hardware revision 2. Luckily, I received revision 2, but it still had many issues. I had my wife return the gift and plan on purchasing either an IPAD-2 or IPAD-3.

For those that purchased the original IPAD and IPAD-2, can you tell me if there were any release pains or were they mostly problem-free?
Does anyone know if Apple released multiple HW revisions of either the IPAD or IPAD-2?

I also posted this in a thread discussing IPAD-2 vs. IPAD3 in an attempt to keep the discussion in a single relevant thread. The forum wouldn't let me post the link because of my junior member status. I'm guessing responses should go there. Appreciate your help.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

I have an iPad 2 and no there weren't any problems on the release. There are differences between ipad1 and 2, the iPad 1 has 256mb of ram whereas the 2 has 512mb. The iPad 2 also has 2 cameras, the iPad 1 none and the ipad3 will come with extra features too although at this stage we can only guess what they may be. I personally at this stage would be waiting for the 3 and in fact my daughter just had her birthday and rather than just buying her an ipad2, I elected to give her the cash for it. She is now waiting on the release of the new iPad, not very well mind you, she is so excited to be getting one and can't wait.

Thanks Leelai,

That's the answer I was hoping for. It is reassuring that waiting for the IPAD-3, even though it might be a little painful waiting, is the right path.

The experience with Asus made me hestitant that bugs and design flaws might be the norm in the tablet market. It's very strange, there are many ASUS TF201 forum posters that think it is the greatest product ever, yet go on to state that they are fine with low wifi, random browser lockups, exchanging hardware for newer versions just weeks into product release, and all sorts of other problems that they state are to be expected with a new product. I want something that just works out of the box and now believe the IPAD is it.

Again -I appreciate your insight.
