Hi,
I am a new member and I joined in order to "pick your brains" about my iPad. I have had an iPad 2 for 2 years and my 6 yo twin boys know more about it :)
I'm technologically challenged! What can I say. I grew up when computers were the size of a room and they were using dot cards to program!
Anyway, I have come across several instances where I could not download an option for a website because I don't have at least Safari 3.X or better. I don't know what I have because I can't find it in the settings menu but I guess it's less than 3.X. Is there anyway to upgrade Safari on an iPad 2? Or is it upgraded on the iPad 3 or other? My operating system is up-to-date according to the iPad.
Can anyone help?

Hi there and welcome.

If a website is asking for Safari followed by a number then it's looking for the desktop version of Safari (as you would find on a desktop or laptop computer). The version of Safari on your iPad is Mobile Safari......so whatever the download is, it's not compatible with the version of Safari on your iPad and unfortunately there is no way around that.

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.

Remember, search is your friend. If you can't find the answer you need and you post a question then give as much info as you can to help members help you i.e. iPad 1 or 2, etc. and iOS version and name of app if the problem is with a specific app........and please don't forget to read the forum rules http://www.ipadforums.net/forum-rules-help-info/2119-forum-rules-everybody-please-read.html

These are the hacking section rules for all you jail breakers (and would be jail breakers) http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hacking/2892-hacking-section-rules-please-read.html

We also have an app for this forum. The link to download the app is: Discussion Forum for iPad Users for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store and a great tutorial/guide for using the IPF App here http://www.ipadforums.net/new-membe...sistance/107524-ipad-forums-app-tutorial.html

You can download the manual for your iPad here http://help.apple.com/ipad/6/ and here http://support.apple.com/manuals/ and in iBooks search for "iPad user guide for" and you will find free comprehensive manuals for iOS 4, 5, 6, etc.

If you have other Apple products or are interested in other Apple kit then why not join our sister forum too at http://www.appleforums.net/ and for iPhone users, come and join in the discussion over at http://www.iphoneforums.net

Hi Dramviola - yep I remember those days - between my 1st & 2nd years in medical school (summer of 1968), I had a job collecting data from Toledo (Ohio) hosptitals (Pap smears as I recall) - entered onto punch cards which were sorted on a huge machine - BOY, in 1980, we had our first computer, an Apple II+ - what difference, but I ramble -

Gabriel has addressed your question, but to just provide additional information; iOS is the operating system in Apple's mobile products (iPads, iPhones, iPods) and Safari is integrated into the iOS, so is likely updated w/ each OS update to the iPad - on my iPad 2, I currently have iOS version 6.1.3 (the most recent and also presumably the newest 'mobile' Safari version for that platform; check in Settings -> General). Now, keep in mind that this is NOT the same as Safari on a Mac OS computer (on my MacBook Pro, the OS X current Safari version is 6.0.5). Also, you might want to provide some further information as to what you are trying to do on the web? Dave :)

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Yes, I'm wondering what it is you're trying to do also. Some Browsers have the ability to mimic other browsers. Atomic web browser does this and I wonder if this would work for you
