I justified my purchase of an iPad3 "for business" and discovered it to be the most fun & useful toy I own (motorcycle excepted).
I'm in the process of identifying and loading useful apps and hoping that Bill Gates will release an Office app soon.
With the availibility of Kindle and Nook apps, my e-reader is sitting on the shelf. With the iPad, I can also borrow e-books from my local library.
I will probably have some app-specific questions, and will rely on someone's expertise to help.

Regarding an Office app, have you looked at desktop.onlive.com

Not available in the UK yet, but looks pretty good.

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.

Remember, search is your friend. You can download the manual for your iPad here http://support.apple.com/manuals/ and in iBooks search for "iPad user guide for" and you will find free comprehensive manuals for both iOS 4 and 5.
