I'd just gotten the new iPad 3 months ago and then my pc crashed, so I decided to get a MacBook Pro laptop (is that redundant?) and have already decided that I should have gotten a regular Mac and not the laptop. How hard/easy is it to upgrade and what are your suggestions as to the best way to do this? I'm new to the whole Apple culture as I've always had a pc. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

I'm a little confused as to your question, what is it you want to upgrade, your MacBook pro or the iPad? Apple do have a 14 day window if you have made an error and would like to buy something different. To find out what OS your iPad is on look in Settings - General - About and look for version, the latest is 5.1.1 right now. All updates can be done directly on the iPad once you are on OS5. When an update is due you just go to Settings - General - Software Update. Let us know if you need more info.

Sorry that I wasn't clear. I bought my laptop about 5 months ago. I now realize that having a laptop and an iPad are a bit repetitive. I think I should have bought a Mac desk top instead of the laptop. I wanted to know if there was anyway to update the 5 month old laptop to a Mac desk top? After doing some more research, it appears that I'm SOL. Oh well, you live and learn. I guess I shouldn't have been so anxious to buy the laptop. Thanks. Pattie

Okay thanks for getting back to us, as you've discovered there isn't any way short of selling your MacBook pro then purchasing a desk top. I bought a MacBook pro also and I was worried about the same thing but it's good that the Mac is still portable as I do cart it around still. You learn, but make the most of it!

Yes, we do learn. Maybe when my husband decides to get a new computer I can talk him into getting a Mac desk top. Too bad Apple doesn't have an upgrade program. Pattie
