Newbie here to learn about Lotus Notes apps on an iPad

Hi,
I'm somewhat out of my depth here as I have just been approached by a client who wants an app for his iPad and my background is in Lotus Notes.
Looking for some guidance on how to build an app that he can use on his iPad and will also talk to (replicate with) a Notes server (Domino)
Any ideas gratefully received

Don’t be afraid to post any questions you may have or use the ‘Search’ button near the top of the Forum web page. I usually find I discover one new interesting and useful piece of information about my iPad every day - and often not even what I was looking for!!
