Not all songs transfer from itunes to ipad

I have recently bought an Ipad 3 and when synching with my itunes have found that not all of the songs were transferred to my ipad.
Some new songs which I have recently downloaded have also not been transferred to my ipad.
Can anyone help with how I can fix this ?
I am not 'technically gifted' therefore any assistance anyone can provide will require clear step by step instructions on what I need to do or check.
I hope someone has the time and knowledge to help me as I am going mad with frustration.
