Notes app keeps shutting down

Hello.
I have an Ipad 2 OS 7.1. just recently my notes app has stopped working it boots then 2 secs later it closes, I have looked for solutions but so far no joy. I have tried to do a reset but I am asked for a pass-code, well I have never set one up so I cannot move forward. I have tried to uninstall/re-install the app but it is embedded. Why doe s Apple make it so difficult to fix these simply problems?. that said can anyone help please.

When an app "misbehaves", force close it:
Double tap the Home button to show the multitask bar, then slide the thumbnail above the app icon towards the top of the screen.

Or try resetting it this way:
Press and hold Home and Power button until the Apple logo appears. Then let go of both, your iPad will power up on it's own.
This kind of reset won't remove data or settings, so there shouldn't be a problem performing it.

If Johanna's advice does no work try opening the Notes app by an alternate method: Siri or Search.

Siri: Tell Siri "Take a Note" then dictate a short note when prompted. Tap on the result on Siri's screen to open that note.

Search: Pull down the Search box and type in Note. Tap on Notes when you see it in the results. If that does not work try searching for a specific note and open it from the search results.
