Hi everyone,

I'm a senior (just celebrated my 80th) and I received an iPad Air from my wife as a birthday gift.

I am Windows knowledgeable but I've never owned any iOS device and as the iPad didn't come with any meaningful instructions I'm coming here for some direction. My closest Apple store is 30 miles away so I'd appreciate learning of another way to get started.

Also, I'm under the impression that I'm entitled to some very useful Apple apps (available free to new iPad owners). What are they and how do I go about downloading them?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks scifan. What about my 2nd question re the free apps I'm entitled to download (iWorks, etc.)?

You'll find these in App Store (the app) - Featured, scroll down to "New to the App Store?" Tap it and select this:

There you'll be able to download them. The apps in question are Pages, Numbers, Keynotes, ... All you have to do is tap the "Free" button and enter your Apple ID password.

Just one "advice": enjoy your new device! :)

Everyone uses his iPad differently. Find out what it can do, what you prefer to use it to. Don't expect it to work like a Windows computer. And if you have problems, don't hesitate to ask for a solution here. We'll certainly try to help, if possible. :)

iMovie, iPhoto, and GarageBand are also part of the free offer and are downloaded the same way.

Problem #1 - I seem to have forgotten my passcode - another senior moment (I'm having a lot of those lately)!
