OK - a few questions. Clearly, as you said, this is a new iPad. I'm assuming you successfully synchronised it with iTunes on your PC or that this was done in the Apple Store.

Are the other apps on the iPad working OK? Have you tried Safari or Mail or Calendar? Do they work OK? Is Notes the only app that's not working properly.


You mention Notes is greyed out - do you mean the icon itself on the Home screen or, when you open up the app the resulting screen is greyed out.

Let us know some more details and we'll try and help.

If you transferred apps from your old iPad

there is the possibility you will have to re download Notes. You should not have to pay for it again though. That happened to me with Zinio which would not let me read my magazines. Reloaded the App and all was well again.

Hm, best guess.

If you have absolutely no notes then all the icons, including the plus icon for creating a new note will be grayed out. That is because your first note is already displayed.

Tap anywhere on the note itself to get the keyboard. Now start typing. All the icons will un-gray, and you'll be able to add new notes, delete the current one, whatever.
