Picking my iPad 2 up Friday once ive synched it with this laptop which has iTunes and stuff on it because ive got iPhone do i really need a laptop anymore??? Took it in to work for IT geeks to look at and its worth a fair bit second hand and people want to buy it.....................which would help to pay for an iPad for my son who lives with his Mum

Although you don't NEED a computer, I for one would be very uncomfortable without one. There are things that your laptop will be very useful for, such as mass storage for music, movies, books etc that you don't want right now, or may exceed the capacity of your iPad.

In addition, it's never comfortable to have all of your data in one place. Backup has always been the watchword in the computer industry.

If you don't have another computer then I would keep the laptop even if it is just a paper weight most of the time.

Agreed, especially if you back up to iTunes and ever need to do a restore on your iPad or iPhone you will be very happy you still have it.

You could also sell the laptop of its a nice one and get a cheapo computer for a couple hundred bucks just to sync to

Well if you ever need to backup your iPad for something your out of luck

Cheers for advice going to hang onto laptop, it will collect dust but will come in handy now and again

I find the laptops in the household get used less but still get used a fair amount. There are some games I still play and some websites for live TV and such that simply won't run on the iPad. As others have mentioned, mass storage or major document creation might still be easier on the laptop. Nothing wrong with having laptops around!

I live in Canada and iTunes movies in the cloud is only available in the United States.I have more iTunes movies than will fit on my iPad and my laptop is the only place to store the extra movies, unlike my iTunes tv shows which use Apple's cloud storage.

I burn my cds with my laptop into my Itunes and also upload pics from my camera with it. That's pretty much it now.
