Orientation lock problem on Air 2

Since installing iOS 10 my iPad Air 2 has randomly got stuck in orientation lock. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to which apps are in use when it happens so I don't think it's a specific app causing it. I have tried turning lock on then off again with no effect and the only thing that seems to cure it is switching the iPad off and back on again.

Has anybody else had this problem, any ideas how to prevent it happening and/or put it right without switching off?

This really is becoming quite annoying on my iPad Air2 now. I'm running 10.1.1 and it's happening regularly now. Only way out is a reset which is a real 'p.i.t.a'.
Incidentally I never had a problem with this before iOS 10?
