Absolutely!!
If you just have a few photos you could always email them to yourself and collect them on the iPad. It's probably the easiest way if you're not confident with iTunes.
If you have many photos, then sync with iTunes and they'll be transferred.
Another option is to use a third-party app - such as GoodReader - that allows you to transfer any file from a PC to the iPad via WiFi or USB.
Also, there is the optional Camera Connection Kit that allows you to import photos directly from your camera via USB or from an SD memory card that was in your camera and has the photos on it.
Enjoy your iPad and don't hesitate at all to get back in touch if there's anything else you want - I'm in the North East of Scotland, it's a lovely sunny day and I'm sitting out in the sun with my iPad - we don't get many sunny days here....
