Hi and welcome to the Forum!

The latest update that an iPad 1 can have is 5.1.1. Have a look in Settings - General - About and look for Version to see what OS your iPad is on and let us know.

The IPad Forum is a community of members from all walks of life and from all over the world coming together to share our experiences and to help each other learn about this wonderful piece of technology the Ipad. There is a wealth of information already here in the many threads we have so doing some searches will answer most of the questions you have. If then you cannot find the answer you are seeking then by all means post your question. There are many friendly and informed members here only too willing to help you.

I've deleted the post you made in the iPad 1 forum as it duplicated your question in this post. Besides fragmenting any resulting conversation, making it difficult to follow, duplicate posting is also against forum rules.

Can I get my Tx messages to go from my iPhone 4s to my iPad1 then or not?

While you can't send regular text messages to an iPad, you can use iMessage to send text messages between iDevices, such as your iPhone 4S and iPad 1.
