When I unplug from the charger in the morning I've been getting a demand for my Apple ID password so that downloads can be activated.
It then refuses to accept it and I after cancel a couple of times, gives up and goes away.

That's happened on my iPad a few times as well. I just cancel it and everything still works normally.

So you haven't fixed it?
You just put up with it?

It's likely a bug in iOS that should be fixed with the next update.
