When trying to sync my ipad, I would like to sync to an external drive, but it always goes to an internal drive...Any way on I tunes I can specify it? I have tried to erase I tunes on internal drive, but it doesn't seem to help, still puts all junk there. Internal drive is too full to upgrade and then redowngrade so I am stuck.
Thanks for the help,

I vaguely recall iTunes having an "preferences" >>> "advanced" setting option that allows you to define the location of some media, such as music. I don't recall which tab (file? edit? view?) it is under, but I am hoping you can find it. Some of this may depend on what type of data (music, photos, files, movies) you are trying to sync. For photos, I think you must select your iPad device in the left column, at which point there displays a "photo" tab in the big window, where there is an option to define the photo sync location.

I don't know what OS you are on but on OSX you drag your entire iTunes to an external drive, it's that easy. You just have the front end running on the internal disc.

On Windows, looks like this is your path.

Edit/Preferences/Advanced

From there you can change the location of your iTunes Media folder.
