Problem with sound

Have downloaded several apps with sound, but most are like they are muted. Apps like piano, etc. some work ok. Is the problem with most of the apps, or do I need to change something on my iPad?

I have ipad2 and iOS 5.0.1
Piano free does not work - that is, no sound.
Steinway Étude does have sound.
These are just two free apps from the app store.
Can half the apps I download be defective, or am I doing something wrong?

Whenever there is an IOS update all apps need to be updated also to run on it. Sometimes it is only when the app updates come out that bugs are discovered and then another update has to be done.
It's a good idea to reset your iPad after an IOS update also.
Try these steps:

Do the four finger swipe up to reveal your multi task bar along the bottom. It will show all the apps that you have opened at one time or another. Long press one of these apps until they start to jiggle and red minus signs will appear above them all. Press all the minus signs, this will close them, not delete them. It's a good idea to do this regularly just to keep them all running smoothly, I do mine every night. Check and see if it is operating now. if not a restart is in order.

Restart: Press and hold the power off button, the one at the top right. You will see a slide appear to power off, slide this and the screen will go dark and a Whirly will appear. When the Whirly disappears your iPad is now off. Press the power button again until the Apple logo appears, this will take a few seconds and your iPad will start again. You should restart your iPad occasionally also as it will keep it running smoothly. Now see if it is operating. If not a reset is the next step.

Reset: Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you will see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start. This is a reset.

When your iPad begins to behave strangely these are the first steps you should do to rectify it. Let us know how you go, good luck!!

Problem with iPad 2 sound

I have ipad2 which since upgrading to iOS 5.0.1 does not have speaker sound on all apps except music and iTunes.
I have tried all the General Settings to no avail. Sound is fine with headphones.

iPad sound problem

It's sod's law that as soon as I added a post I found the answer to my problem.
The side switch next to volume control had been used to disable the sound but then the side switch use was changed to lock orientation in General Settings so using the switch had no effect on sound. I had to change use back in Gen settings then enable sound with the switch.
I feel such a dummy.:p

You shouldn't feel like a dummy at all, actually you are quite clever for thinking about that and switching it back to the mute option. Thanks for the tip, it will most likely help someone else!
