Question about engraving

I didn't get my iPad engraved as I thought it might delay shipment but I wonder if anyone knows exactly how it's engraved. I ask because my company has a number of different engraving systems, one being a low powered laser system and I'm thinking I may be able to engrave it myself.
Of course, I don't want to kill the warranty.
Anyone know more about the engraving?
