Hello guys, this is my first iPad as I got it as a gift and I am loving it!! I stumbled upon this site and I have learned a lot about what the iPad can do from u guys.. Thank you for posting.. I do have a question though.. The iPad I received is the 16gb one.. I love to watch movies and this storage is too small for me.. I really don't have the money to go and buy the upgrade and iCloud storage is too expensive.. I was wondering if it is possible to use the camera connection kit to plug in a USB or a sd external drive and play movies off the drive rather than having to put them on the iPad... If this won't work, then can you guys please tell me a method that u use to play movies externally?

I also want to add that I have a buanch of movies already downloaded on my computer that I want to see off my iPad.l. So apps like Netflix wont be good for me.. Thank u :)

Use a upnp compatible video app, ex; Goodplayer(paid app), AirAV(great free app), these are excellent apps for streaming .avi files. if wanting to stream .mkv(720p) files, I have found the Streamtome(paid app) the best as it doesn't use much CPU from the server side, because it supports them natively and doesn't have to transcode the files. For streaming .mp4 720p, I have found the best server to be Windows Media Player, no idea what works for Mac. The other 2 servers I use are PS3 Media server and TVersity. I have a huge movie collection and usually stream my movies, mas I too have the 16Gb and it fills up quick with movie files. Hope this helps you out some?

Hi,
I tried the camera connection kit and it really didn't help.
The USB port won't power a stick or card reader, and I found the SD card slot worked, if files were in the DCIM folder, but only displayed files that had been taken by my camera, their properties have camera, date, etc embedded in the picture file.
I use a free app called Air Video which streams files to your iPad/ iPhone etc, but the free app only displays files folders in small random lists you keep needing to
Refresh, so I payed to upgrade and it was well worth it.
Air Video also allows you to stream remotely over 3G, or WiFi hotspot, and it converts files in real time before streaming them to you.
You need to install Air Video server ( totally free ) on your PC

Hope this helps

Andy
