read photos/videos directly from sd card without importing?

is that possible? i haev a 16gb ipad 2 and it will soon be out of space as i often transfer my photos on it... read with the camera kit.. you need to import the photos... is there a way to "mount" an sd card via the sd card reader and read/write directly to the sdcard?
