Red number 1 over one of my app icons

I have a game on my ipad 2 (called Clink HD) and for several days it has had a number 1 in a red circle over the top, right corner of the icon.

Does anyone know what this means?

Once you read/view it, it will disappear

It's pushed you an update notification. Go into the app to the relevant area to resolve it.

Sometimes they don't disappear due to an app being slightly buggy. If, like me, you don't like them and find them annoying you can go into settings, tap the notification side bar and then find said app and turn off notification badges.

I get that when I play Smurf Village to alert me when a smurf has arrived or a task is complete and ready to collect. Once you go to the game app, that number should disappear.

Some apps have a new or announcements feature. Find the icon, make sure all the messages in that area are read.

You should be able to turn notifications off for that app under Settings > Notifications. (iOS 5 only)
