Replacing The Daily app

I'm looking for another app similar to The Daily but free. I'm not saying The Daily isn't worth $.99 a week, but there's too much free stuff on the net for me to pay $40 a year for the same thing (sort off anyway) with just a little work.
However, there are some great news apps but I wanted some opinions of what others like and use as well.

Nothing free is quite like The Daily.

Howerver you can give these a try.

NY Times - selected content is free without subscription
USA Today - Even has a crossword puzzle
NPR - Stuff that is or was on NPR, and some news from their site
Flipboard - there a numerous news and lifestyle sources you can add to this magazine style reader.

And if you find you miss having classifieds, try Lifelike Craigslist Pro.

You could also try Zite.
It is a magazine type app that has categories you can select and create.
