Restore to Firmware For Other Devices?

I gather that this is probably a very stupid question, but I'm going to risk being ridiculed and ask anyway.

Would it be possible to restore my iPad 2 to an IPSW created for, as an example, the iPad mini? Of course, I know that it is not what we are supposed to do, but in theory, is this possible?

Sorry, but no. iTunes will recognize that the device you are attempting to restore does not match the IPSW you're trying to use. So, it will reject the restore and throw you an error notice.

So, this cannot be avoided with a tool like redsn0w? I've used iReb to restore to custom firmware on older devices...
