What's new

Safari Bookmarks column

Wow, that simple! I do not find Safari instinctive in any way. As a PC user since first invented, people keep telling me how user friendly all Apple products are. I beg to differ! ;)

This feature was added with the new software, it wasn't like that before. :)

I've been working with Windows PCs for more than 25 years now, and since I own an iPad, I only use my notebook if I have to. Just my experience. :)

Ah, I've been around a bit longer than that. :) Built my first desktop from a kit by a company called Processor Technology in 1977 - long before IBM even coined the phrase "Personal Computer". I was living in LA at the time.

Stuck with the Intel chip machines for 36 years because they offered more opportunity for software development in the commercial field.

My first Apple device - an iPad Mini given to me by my oldest son for my birthday this year. As I'm visiting my holiday home in Transylvania, it seemed like a good idea to just carry the iPad - wrong! I'm finding it tortuous :(.

I'm sorry that your first impressions are not the best ones. I needed to get used to my first iPad when I purchased it more than two years ago.

Maybe the user guide will help a bit to become accustomed to it: http://help.apple.com/ipad/8/

You're very kind. I'll have a look at the details and maybe get a bit more familiar with it. Now I'm - ostensibly - on holiday I have a bit more time to play around with it.

Many thanks for your helpful posts.

Well, I've looked in the user guide but I still can't find out how to make Safari the default browser. I have Opera installed (which I want) but it's taken over as the default. Any suggestions please?

Safari IS the default browser on the iPad.

What links are you clicking on (in what app) that make Opera open?

I ask because this is still one of the major bones of contention for those that run iOS - that all links default to Safari.

However, some apps have settings that allow you to pick a different browser when opening a link from within that app. Could that be what's happening with your Opera browser?

Do you use the built in Mail app for your emails?

This isn't supposed to happen on a stock iPad.

What's the email account that's opening website links in Opera?
If you remove the browser from your iPad (you'll be able to upload Opera again afterwards), what happens to the same links? Do the sites look different when they open?

My email account in with gmail. Now I've removed Opera (temporarily) all links open (of course) in Safari. Some links were opening in Opera and it didn't give me the option of opening pdf files in the Adobe Reader whereas Safari does. I'll try re-loading Opera soon to see how things react.

Thanks again for your help.
