Safari not working

Help! I'm not able to get onto the internet via safari. I haven't downloaded firefox to remedy because I cant get on the Internet. I can access my email (showing new email). When I log onto safari, the screen is greyed out and I can't access any icons. Thoughts?

A restart will usualy cure this.

Hold down the sleep/wake button until the red power off slider appears, then slide it off. After the iPad finishes shutting down press the sleep/wake button again until the Apple logo appears.
