Saving iPad apps to computer

I have a bunch of apps that I downloaded to my iPad and am finally able to sync to my computer (it was being fixed), but now, if I sync my iPad to my mac, it wants to delete all the apps I have bought and am currently using. iTunes wants to replace all my iPad apps with my iPhone apps.

Is there a way to back up all of my apps without having to sync and lose all my apps and data?

See what happens if you click on "file" - and drop down to "transfer purchases from ipod". That's what I do when I make purchases on my iphone and need to transfer them to the computer before syncing. I just got my ipad and have made all my app purchases on my Mac so far.....

iPad Apps are designed to work with iOS, so they won't work on the operating system of your computer.
