saving to iCloud

my iPad 2 keeps telling me that i can backup to iCloud only by locking it and re-charging. i lock my iPad2 by pressing on the home button and the on-off button, but i still don't get backed up. what am i doing wrong?

Your iPad will start backing up to iCloud automatically, when it's connected to the internet, locked and plugged in. If one of these is missing, it won't do it. Also, this won't happen instantly, but can need minutes to get started.

You're able to backup manually, though, in Settings - iCloud - Storage & Backup. Select "Backup Now" to start the process.
