Security of ipad 2 when using wifi

How secure is the ipad 2 when using wifi? I was wondering if someone can access any of the word processing elements of the ipad when you're using a wifi. Pages, pdf-notes, notes, documents to go, keynote, etc. Thanks.

Not sure on the actual access to the device, but in an open wifi network they could certainly read any information that you are sending if you want. I have an app called Fing on my iPhone that shows everyone connected to the wifi that you are currently connected to. Android also has lots of apps to aid in hacking so be careful on open wifi networks.

In general, the data stored on your device is safe and the software architecture of the iOs with a "sandboxed" approach to managing data (under the control of a particular app rather than as part of an accessible common file system) makes it even safer. However, as the previous poster noted, the keystrokes you type when on a public wifi network are often easily trapped unless you have precautions such as a VPN configured.
