Security Updates

Anyone who uses (or has used) a PC knows that you occasionally have install security updates into Windows. Do you have to do that with the iPad 2? Or does it do it automatically?

You should install iOS updates, as they usually include new security updates. But other then that is there no way of updating security, not that it is needed. Without an antivirus software, no signature updates are required.

The iPad is fairly safe.

Anyway, iTunes checks from time to time for iOS updates and informs you of available updates, when you connect the iPad. However, these iOS updates come irregularly, so keeping your iPad up-to-date is not something you need to worry about.

A couple of things. First, what do you mean you say that the iPad is "fairly safe"? Also, you mention anti-virus software. Is it a neccesary to get anti-virus software, a firewall, spyware protection, and all the other things you need to get for a PC for the ipad 2?

Sorry, I wasn't very clear.

You do not have to worry about security, there is no need for any software to protect the iPad.

You should only take care, if your device is jail broken, as that circumvents the security measures and would potentially allow for rogue apps. But as long as you only use official apps from either the AppStore or Cydia is there nothing to worry about.
