Send button greyed out

When i try to send a messge on my ipad2 the send button is greyed out and won't send, i can type the message but the button just won't work, any suggestions, must be a simple answer.

Are you talking about in the iMessage app? Sorry for the obvious question, but - do you have the message addressed to anyone? I've noticed you don't get an active send button unless it's ready to go to someone.

If you have it addressed, then I'm not sure what's going on...

Also, if you are seeing two lines of text entry, the first is the subject line. You won't be able to Send until you enter something on the second line.

You can turn off the subject line in Settings > Messages.
