Is there. Way to send and receive txt messages on an iPad2

A non jail broken iPad cannot send or receive SMS ('text') messages directly - but there are several third-party apps available that host text messaging services on the company's web server.

If you jail break your iPad, then there are a couple of third party apps that can directly send 'text' messages from the iPad.

i use an app called 'Brilliant sms' on my unjailbroken ipad 2. works from my ipad to any mobile phone. you need to buy credit though, which is cheap.

You can send SMS from iPad withou third party app but can't receive them.
