This morning my partner's daughter sent me this message on FB messenger:

Can you show this to mom? It's a very simple exercise and
think it would really help her.

"Along with a video."

When I pulled it up the first two sentences were already in the out box.


I'll tell her. And I'll keep her comfortable todav she'll be
sleeping. Yes I will. I didn't write those first two sentences. I
my iPad now answering things for me?

I added the second two. I know for sure I did not type the first two.

Anyone know if this is some new AI thing from FB?

Sounds like a virus of some sort. Were you on Facebook Messenger App or on Facebook through the iPads web browser?

I’ve repeatedly heard about YouTube videos sent via FB Messenger, which are scam, and contain a link to a fake YouTube channel. It might be safer if you don’t try watching anything sent there.

FB messenger app. I also read that FB has some BOTs that can auto answer something like this.
It was also an almost relevant answer.

You’d have to set this up, it’s not possible for FB to reply by itself without that you take action, afaik.

Yes, I agree with that. Of course I didn't set it up. I will probably never know what happened.

Maybe something to do with the below, if the sender used an app to send the message instead of FB Messenger itself.

A long shot, but the only legitimate feature I found that ‘might’ be a cause.

I'm guessing that she just used the "plain vanilla" message app. I'll check with her. She is not an enthusiast. Does not use Touch ID, has a paper candler with her iPhone 6s.

Supposedly iPads don’t get viruses so it’s unlikely it’s not that.
