sortcut web connects

Ive had my i pad 2 for about 3 weeks. I have several short cuts on my desktop to frequently used web sites, ie my business web site, pay pal etc. Last pm I found I could no longer connect to these sites. It is only the sites I have short cuts for. I have turned the pad on and off and took it to the local geek squad today. They told me it was java related. Any comments or help is appreciated

What happens if you delete one of these short-cuts and then go (manually in Safari) to the website concerned and save the shortcut again? Does it work then?

No, however I did try going just through Safari and still it would not go through.
And this is just with the sites I've short cutted. Any other site I can get on.
I may just have to wipe the slate clean and reboot as though it were a new purchase.
Someone said it may have something to do with the new JAVA updates, but I view that as very questionable.
