Sound problem

Some time ago, my mini-retina had developed an unusual problem. I play a lot of games, but the audio does NOT exit the speakers. It can be heard by the use of ear phones.

At first, I thought the open-circuit phone jack had stuck in the open position, but when watching live TV or a movie, the sound is always heard exiting the speakers.

Is there some setting that I might have accidentally tweaked? What would account for this behavior?

Sounds like you've turned on Mute. Mute will be turned on/off either by the slide switch next tot he volume buttons or in the Control Panel, depending on your settings in Settings > General > Use Side Switch To:

Mute is primarily meant to silence alarms and system sounds while leaving audio and video apps alone. You are muting unexpected sounds, not everything. Games may or many not mute, depending on how the developer coded them.

You hit the nail on the head; mute (in control panel) was enabled. Thanks.
