Hi. I would really like to be able to use the Numbers spreadsheet to filter out a few select quotes from a list of say 1000 quotes. Supposing you want to find all the quotes that use the word "ipad" out of a thousand quotes. Can anyone tell if this is possible using Numbers or any other iPad application. It is a snap using MS XL. Morris

Cant answer on the Numbers, but I checked in DocsToGo Premium and I was not allowed to filter, but I could search. 2 different things, I know.

I would look at Google Docs (they are now allowing editing on iPads - still being pushed out and should be completely upgraded soon)

Yes in Numbers just click the wrench icon in the upper right corner, then choose find:

You can do all the standard find functions like find and replace.

I think he is wanting to filter and show only the rows with a certain term. Not just find them one at a time. Filter =\= Find

I just tried out this in Google Docs (force Desktop in Safari) and you can filter on any column for text.

Still, if there is a list of 1000 quotes, and you want to find only the few with a word/phrase, would you rather have to hit find next, or just show the rows that have the word/phrase, excluding the rest; Filtering.

DocsToGo can Find as well, but man, that sounds more tedious.

I read it as he was looking for Excel's "Auto Filter" which creates the dropdown where you can enter a word/phrase or select from the list.

Filtering a spreadsheet

I tried Google Docs. It works in a fashion, but you have to be on line and that makes it super slow!! Morris in VN

They talk about "grouping" and using categories with Numbers; I wonder if that is the same as filtering. I would find out myself, but so far Apple will not let a Canadian in VN set up an iTunes account!!! Morris.
