Before I installed IOS 5.00 on my iPad2, I could get back to the top of a newspaper I was reading by tapping the status bar. Not only that after I read an article and pressed the back button, I would get back to that place in the newspaper headlines. With IOS 5, neither happens. Any clues as to why?

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Did you do a reset after installing the new IOS. It was a recommended step to have everything running smoothly. But first we'll try a few other steps. Double click your home button, or do the 4 finger swipe up to bring up your multi task bar along the bottom. It will show all the apps that you have opened at one time or another. Long press one of these apps until they start to jiggle and red minus signs will appear above them all. Press all the minus signs, this will close them, not delete them. It's a good idea to do this regularly just to keep them all running smoothly, I do mine every night. See if it will work now, if not a restart is in order. Press and hold the power off button, the one at the top right. You will see a slide appear to power off, slide this and the screen will go dark and a Whirly will appear. When the Whirly disappears your iPad is now off. Press the power button again until the Apple logo appears, this will take a few seconds and your iPad will start again. You should restart your iPad occasionally also as it will help the iPad to run smoother. Now see if it is operating. If not you will have to do a reset. Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you will see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start. This is a reset. When your iPad starts to play up, these are the first steps you should do to clear it. Let us know how you go, good luck!!

Thanks Leelai. I did everything you said, even a reset. Though the problem wasn't fixed, the iPad is a lot faster and smoother.

Well at least you got something out of it. Do you happen to know if your newspaper app has had an update since the new IOS. It may have something to do with that. Also deleting the app and reinstalling it may be worth doing. I've had to do that with one of mine that wasn't behaving as it should and that fixed it. Give it a go and see what happens. If you have paid for the app, you can still reinstall it for free. Let us know what happens if anything

Go to the app store and check whether there are comments in the description about whether it's been upgraded to iOS 5. You also can check comments, and if there are people complaining about stuff not working under iOS 5, then you'll have indirect confirmation that it's the app, not your iPad. If that's the case, contact the paper your subscribe to and tell them to update their app.
