Synchronisation problems

Hi everybody,

I am having some problems synchronising my iPad to my PC.
When I synchronise my iPad to my PC it won't transfer my music from my PC to my iPad. (the numbers appear on my iPad but they are greyed out)

AND I can't update my iTunes on PC to 10.5.3. (the downloading will work, but when it should install it just stops).
Is it because I didn't update my iTunes to the newest version that I'm having difficulties?
